When you reach that moment where the scale has simply left you feeling confounded, or you have had it with the waistband of your favourite trousers continuing to tighten, you know it is time to lose weight. This time you mean it. This time you are tossing out the sweets, signing up for your local gym membership and committing yourself to sticking to your exercise goals.

There is just one problem. The first few weeks you stuck to your routine like a champ. Then your child got sick or something else happened to muddle your daily schedule. The next thing you know you have skipped a day or two of exercise. You start to feel guilty, then you start to feel unmotivated, and then you end up binging on ice cream or take away to deal with these uncomfortable feelings.

You are not alone, and you have nothing to feel ashamed about. Staying motivated to exercise requires that you recommit yourself every day. Leave those trousers out so you can try them on every morning. Still do not like the fit? Get out and do your workout! Not loving what the scale reads? These should help you to refocus.

The worst thing you can do is beat yourself up and quit. If you have set large goals for yourself such as workout five days a week to lose 20 pounds in a month, you may need to make adjustments. Break your goals into smaller ones. You may try to lose one pound a week while working out 20 minutes four days a week. These smaller goals are easier to focus on achieving every day.

Have you told your best friend or your mom about your workout goals? You should. The reason is simple. This way, you have accountability. It is a little embarrassing to have to tell your best friend when she asks why you have stopped your morning jog. Do you admit you have lost your motivation? That can be hard. Working out for 20 minutes, in this instance, can be so much easier.

Remember the reason behind what you are doing. This is what will help you stay motivated even on days when you simply want to linger in bed because it is cold and rainy outside. Everyone needs a little encouragement from time to time. You can recommit to your exercise goals and make magic happen.
